Shah Alam, 30 August 2023 – PROTON, Malaysia’s national carmaker, has reached a significant milestone in its commitment to producing high-quality vehicles. The Proton Test Centre, the company’s in-house testing facility located in Shah Alam, has been awarded the prestigious MS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation for testing and calibration competence.

The certificate of accreditation was formally presented to PROTON by Shaharul Sadri Alwi, Director General of the Department of Standards Malaysia, and was received by Hazrin Fazail Haroon, Director of Group Engineering at PROTON.

MS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is a globally recognized standard that assesses the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. This accreditation demonstrates Proton Test Centre’s dedication to developing quality management systems and consistently achieving high testing standards over time. The requirements for certification encompass various aspects, including the maintenance of quality manuals, standard operating procedures, and work instruction flows, among others.

This international accreditation not only signifies the reliability of Proton Test Centre’s results but also underscores the facility’s integrity, competence, and overall quality. Furthermore, it positions the test centre to meet the testing requirements for vehicles co-developed with Geely and even opens up opportunities for testing other Geely models.

Commenting on this achievement, Hazrin Fazail Haroon stated, “The accreditation bestowed upon Proton Test Centre is a testament to the unwavering dedication of PROTON’s engineering and testing teams in enhancing our technical capabilities, aligning with our partner, Geely. This accreditation streamlines our product development process, reducing costs by eliminating the need to send parts overseas for testing and enhancing our project timelines.”

PROTON’s attainment of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from Jabatan Standard Malaysia, a department under the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), marks a significant milestone for the company. Haroon added, “Since the establishment of Proton Test Centre, our goal has been to attain MS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation. With this recognition, our test centre meets both the technical competence and management system requirements necessary to consistently deliver technically valid test results and calibrations.
