Proton ends 2023 with fifth consecutive year of growth.Subang Jaya, 3 January 2024 – Malaysian automaker PROTON concludes 2023 with a triumphant fifth consecutive year of growth, achieving its best sales performance since 2012. The company sold 154,611 units, marking a remarkable 9.3% increase over the 2022 sales figure of 141,432 units. The overall market share now stands at an impressive 19.4%, securing PROTON’s second position in overall sales for the fifth consecutive year.
The robust sales growth in 2023 is attributed to the surging demand for PROTON’s PIES models (Persona, Iriz, Exora, and Saga), complemented by the success of the X-series SUV lineup, including the Proton X50, Proton X70, and Proton X90.
The Proton Saga emerges as the best-selling model, recording an outstanding 70,184 units sold, its highest performance since 2012. The B-segment sedan, Proton Persona, experienced a significant rebound with a 48.9% increase in sales, while the Proton Iriz posted a commendable 33.8% growth.
Despite being in its final year of production, the Proton Exora demonstrated a 4.6% sales increase, concluding with 4,473 units sold. The X-series SUVs, comprising the Proton X50, Proton X70, and Proton X90, dominated their respective segments, further contributing to PROTON’s overall success.
Dr. Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, expressed gratitude for Malaysians’ warm reception and highlighted the company’s commitment to delivering not only affordable vehicles but also stylish design, advanced technology, and a strong focus on safety. Anticipating sustained momentum in 2024, Dr. Li emphasized the introduction of the new model, the S70.
