New Isuzu D-Max 1.9 Ddi Blue Power debuts with new variants, updated looks, new specs and lowered prices
The new Isuzu D-Max 1.9 Ddi Blue Power joins the existing D-Max 3.0 Ddi Blue Power bringing the model line-up to 11 variants.. The popular truck’s new engine variant is the smallest displacement offered in the small pick-up truck market. Despite this smaller capacity, the six-speed transmission 1898cc turbo diesel engine’s performance is superior to the five-speed 2.5-litre variant it replaces (see comparison below).
|New D-Max 1.9
|Old D-Max 2.5
|350 at 1800-2600rpm
|320 at 1,800rpm
|Six-speed auto/ manual
|Five-speed auto/ manual
The new engine offers 10 per cent more power and nine per cent more torque then while boasting a 19 per cent improvement on fuel economy. Other improvements are lower CO2 emissions, a six per cent improvement on NVH, a 56kg reduction in weight, a 37 per cent improvement in internal engine friction which equates to lower wear and tear over time.
The new D-Max has the distinction of being the first pick-up truck to be certified as an Energy Efficient Vehicle by JPJ. The D-Max 1.9 also benefits from significantly lower road tax compared to its 2.5-litre predecessor, widening its buyer appeal.
The Model Range
The D-Max’s 11 models are available in three pricing segments: four Premium models, five Basic (Type B) models and two Single Cabs. Two of the 11 are new model options, the 1.9-litre 2WD automatic High Ride (Premium segment) and a 1.9-litre 2WD manual transmission Low Ride (Basic (Type B).

Safety features have also been upgraded with Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Vehicle Launch Assist Control (to increase initial torque on gradients 25 per cent or more) now standard across all 11 variants. All D-Max models come with ABS, EBD, traction control, brake assist, electronic stability control and ISO Fix child seat anchors. Air bags are either two or six, depending on model.
The new D-Max also brings new looks: bolder more aggressive black and chrome front grille, new bi-LED projector headlights and LED DRLs with manual levelling adjustment and a new redesigned inset fog lamp garnish for the Premium range. There are now automatically-folding door mirrors. The 18-inch rims and body decals have also been updated with a new design. Inside the Premium models, there are more soft-feel materials to buffer noise and new black colour trims that make the interior plusher. There’s one high-speed USB charging port in front and also a fast charging USB port at the rear.
