Chery Malaysia is gearing up for the launch of the Omoda E5, an electric SUV set to hit Malaysian roads in March 2024. The grand reveal is set against the backdrop of the Chery Eco Run event this Sunday January 7, promoting a green lifestyle with a non-competitive 5KM and 10KM fun run at Dataran Wawasan Putrajaya.
This eco-friendly SUV previewed in November 2023, boasts a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, providing an impressive WLTP-rated range of 430 km. With a front electric motor delivering 204 PS and 340 Nm of torque, the Omoda E5 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds.
Charging the Omoda E5 is efficient with a maximum of 9.9 kW AC power intake and up to 80 kW of DC power. Chery claims a 30-minute charge from 30% to 80% state of charge using a compatible DC fast charger. Additionally, a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system allows for a 3.3 kW power output, catering to various electrical appliances and accessories.
Highlighting a plethora of features, the Omoda E5 includes single-pedal driving, keyless entry, automatic start, LED projector headlamps, 18-inch alloys, black leather seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a Qualcomm 8155 SoC-powered 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) pack, along with a driver monitoring system, further enhances safety and convenience.
Chery has been accepting registrations of interest since December, keeping enthusiasts on their toes. However, pricing details remain undisclosed. With the petrol-powered Omoda 5 ranging from RM108,800 to RM118,800, the looming question is whether the Omoda E5’s sticker price will align more closely with its internal combustion engine counterpart or the BYD Atto 3, a comparable EV priced at RM167,800. Stay tuned for updates as we await the exciting revelation of Chery’s innovative electric SUV.
