PROTON AND GENTARI LAUNCH 100 kW DC FAST CHARGER AT COE

Subang Jaya, 27 October 2023 – In a significant stride towards advancing the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Malaysia, national car manufacturer PROTON, in partnership with Gentari Sdn Bhd, a clean energy solutions company, unveiled a state-of-the-art 100 kWh DC fast charger at their Centre of Excellence (CoE) headquarters located along the KESAS highway. This dynamic charging station, installed by Gentari’s subsidiary, Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, is strategically positioned in the customer parking area of the Proton Crystal showroom, welcoming EV users of all brands.

As Malaysia’s automotive industry gears up for the impending entry of PROTON into the EV market, this latest move underscores PROTON’s commitment to the rapidly growing segment. Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, expressed gratitude for the partnership with Gentari, emphasizing the installation of the first on-site DC charger at their headquarters and hinting at more collaborations within their dealer network.

“We are grateful to have a dynamic partner like Gentari, who have installed the first on-site DC charger at our headquarters and look forward to more such collaborations in the future within our dealer network,” said Roslan Abdullah.

Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Gentari and Chief Executive Officer of Gentari Green Mobility, spoke of the aligned vision between PROTON and Gentari in advancing green mobility. He highlighted the potential for their combined efforts to accelerate Malaysia’s transition towards sustainable energy solutions.

“Together with Proton, a like-minded national carmaker, our combined efforts can further accelerate the green mobility movement, setting Malaysia on the right path in its energy transition journey. Stay tuned for more initiatives coming out of this strong partnership,” said Shah Yang Razalli.

This milestone follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Gentari and PROTON’s new energy subsidiary PRO-NET on 12 October 2022. Since then, both companies have collaborated on various initiatives to enhance Malaysia’s charging network, including a partnership between Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, Proton Global Services, and other partners to develop a proof-of-concept for a mobile EV charging solution using the Proton Exora. Currently, three units of these proof-of-concept mobile chargers are undergoing testing, each offering 30 kW of charging power. User studies are ongoing to assess the demand for this innovative concept.

In addition to these efforts, PRO-NET is collaborating with Gentari to install fast chargers at several Proton dealerships. The initial phase aims to install five additional Gentari DC chargers by the end of 2023, with a target of twenty dealerships in the near future.

Furthermore, four smart Malaysia dealers have already installed DC chargers from other providers in preparation for the launch of their first model, the smart #1.

Roslan Abdullah concluded by reaffirming PROTON’s commitment to producing its own EV models, starting with the launch of the mild-hybrid Proton X90, followed by more models featuring hybrid technology in the coming years.
