Mercedes C-Class, C200 Avantgarde and C300 AMG Line, initial launch cars are imported from Germany
The all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class has launched in Malaysia. The two models available, C200 Avantgarde and C300 AMG Line, are imported from Germany. The CKD cars will be available after July 2022.
A miniature Mercedes S-Class, the new C has comes with cutting-edge features from the S, like navigation with augmented video and biometric login. It also has the latest generation NTG7 MBUX system from the S-Class which is supposed to be more user-friendly like give information like where the first-aid kit can be found or instructions on how to connect up the mobile phone to the Bluetooth. The new C-Class can also get new features installed over-the-air. These are features which have not even been invented yet at the time the vehicle is sold.
Augmented video makes navigation easier for the driver by using a camera to capture the surroundings in front of the vehicle. The moving images are displayed on central monitor with virtual objects, information and markers like directional arrows and lane-change recommendations are superimposed on the video image.
Exterior styling highlights include hallmark Mercedes-Benz radiator grille with central star, sporty bonnet with power domes and two-piece light design rear lamps. The C200 in Avantgarde trim comes with 18-inch five-spoke wheels. The C300 with AMG Line exterior has 19-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels. Other key exterior highlights of the C300 are panoramic sunroof, LED High Performance headlamps with Adaptive High Beam Assist.
The interior is more driver-focused with the dashboard and central display slightly tilted towards the driver by six degrees. There is a high-resolution 12.3” free-standing driver display. The centre display is a portrait-oriented touchscreen with fingerprint scanner in place of a PIN to protect personal profiles and data.
The latest generation four-cylinder petrol engines in the Mercedes C-Class boast lower fuel consumption from new turbochargers and the addition of second-generation integrated starter-generators (ISG).
The twin-scroll turbochargers have a new feature, the segment charger with flow connection, which improves their responsiveness and efficiency. The segment turbocharger is a result of cooperation between Mercedes-Benz turbocharger developers and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team. For short periods, the output of the C 300 can additionally be increased by up to 20 kW overboost.
The ISG is a 48-volt on-board electrical system which works like a mild hybrid. It provides assistance at low engine speeds, increases engine output with up to 15kW and 200Nm more torque, enables gliding, power boosts and energy recovery to reduce fuel consumption. In addition, it makes idling and the actuation of the start/stop function smoother and improves the performance of the nine-speed G-tronic gearbox in both the C200 and C300.
The C200 is powered by a 1.5-litre engine. The 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds and top speed of 246km/h are generated from 204bhp and a maximum torque of 300Nm.
The C300 has a 2.0-litre engine which produces 258bhp and 400Nm of torque. Its performance figures are 0-100km/h in 6 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h.
