Perodua Unveils eMO-II: A Major Leap Toward Malaysia’s First EV
KUALA LUMPUR, 4 December 2024 – Perodua today revealed its latest electric vehicle prototype, the eMO-II, marking a significant step in its journey toward introducing Malaysia’s first fully electric car. The unveiling took place at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024).
“This prototype represents the next chapter of our EV journey,” said Perodua President and CEO, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad. “The eMO-II builds upon its predecessor with enhanced styling and advanced features, offering a clearer vision of Perodua’s future in electrification.”
A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
The eMO-II showcases a design that seamlessly merges 21st-century aesthetics with Malaysian heritage, incorporating the intricate beauty of the songket motif. The traditional design is further complemented by modern LED lighting, creating a unique and futuristic appeal.
While still in its prototype phase, Dato’ Sri Zainal emphasized that the eMO-II is a work in progress. “We are continuously refining this model, and we’re confident that the final product will embody the cutting-edge innovation and practicality our customers expect.”
A Fully Homegrown Innovation
Developed entirely by Perodua’s in-house Research and Development team, the EV project began in 2023. Despite the steep learning curve, the team remained on track with support from consultants and industry partners.
“We’ve gained invaluable experience throughout this journey,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said. “This prototype is a testament to our commitment to progress, and we look forward to sharing more updates soon.”
Partnering for a Sustainable Future
Perodua is also collaborating with Malaysian corporations to build a holistic ecosystem for EV ownership, including robust infrastructure to ensure efficiency, user-friendliness, and convenience.
“We are grateful for the support of the government, particularly the Prime Minister and MITI, in backing this initiative and fostering the Malaysian automotive ecosystem,” Dato’ Sri Zainal added. “Electrification isn’t just a new way to drive—it’s a critical step in reducing carbon footprints and fighting climate change, and we’re committed to this mission.”
KLIMS 2024 Highlights
In addition to the eMO-II, Perodua is showcasing the Ativa Fuze concept and a retrospective of the company’s 30-year journey at KLIMS 2024. Visitors are invited to explore Perodua’s booth and experience its vision for the future of mobility firsthand.
