BYD has crossed a major milestone in Malaysia, delivering more than 25,000 fully electric vehicles nationwide in just three years, cementing its position as the country’s No. 1 electric vehicle brand and placing it among the top 10 bestselling automotive brands overall in 2025.
The brand was among the earliest entrants into Malaysia’s EV market, arriving in late 2022 following the government’s announcement of duty exemptions for fully electric vehicles. Strong market response saw BYD quickly rise to the top of the local EV segment, with its first 1,000 vehicles — the BYD ATTO 3 — delivered within just 100 days.
Broad model line-up and award recognition
Official distributor BYD Sime Motors currently offers seven fully electric models in Malaysia, spanning multiple segments from entry-level to premium, including sedans, SUVs and MPVs. These models rank among the most popular EVs in the market today.
In recognition of its product strength, the BYD Seal was named Malaysia Car of the Year 2024, further strengthening the brand’s credentials in the local automotive industry.
Measurable environmental impact
The growing number of BYD EVs on Malaysian roads has delivered tangible environmental benefits. Collectively, BYD owners are estimated to reduce more than 62,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to planting nearly 2.5 million trees every year — enough to circle Malaysia’s coastline more than six times.
Nationwide infrastructure and aftersales support
BYD Sime Motors’ extensive nationwide infrastructure has been instrumental in supporting its expanding customer base. The network currently comprises 39 sales and marketing outlets, 24 aftersales service centres, and 12 authorised body and paint centres.

A centralised parts warehouse stocking over 4,600 items ensures fast parts availability and industry-leading repair turnaround times. In addition, more than 1,000 local employees have been trained at BYD’s dedicated Training Centre to maintain high technical and service standards.
“In just three years, BYD has become a key pillar of Sime Motors’ automotive portfolio,” said Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Southeast Asia, Sime Motors. “Our vehicles have transformed Malaysia’s roads, making electric mobility more accessible and practical for everyone. Exemplary ownership experience remains our top priority.”
Driving Malaysia’s EV future
Reflecting on the milestone, Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, said the growing community of BYD owners highlights the rapid adoption of EVs in the country.
“To now have more than 25,000 Malaysians as part of the BYD family is incredibly rewarding. Our commitment to a greener, smarter and safer driving experience has brought us here, and we’re deeply grateful for the trust Malaysians have placed in us,” he said.
Looking ahead, BYD and Sime Motors reaffirmed their commitment to Malaysia’s EV ecosystem. The brand’s 2026 roadmap includes further network expansion, advanced technology integration and the establishment of local assembly operations, aimed at creating sustainable value and employment opportunities.

Year-end offers
With full tax exemptions for fully imported EVs set to end on December 31, 2025, BYD is encouraging consumers considering the switch to electric motoring to act soon. Exclusive year-end promotions are currently available, offering up to RM20,000 in rebates on selected BYD models.
