Volkswagen Malaysia has found the most fuel-efficient driver through its Think Blue.–National Challenge 2013 for Malaysia.

The winner is Ong Lin Kern, who defeated 29 other finalists in the competition which was organised by the subsidiary of Volkswagen AG. All contestants were required to carry out 5 tests using a Golf 1.4 TSI and the highest overall score accumulated would be the winning one.

As the Malaysian champion, Mr. Ong will represent Malaysia in an international driving competition at the Think Blue. World Championship 2013, to be held in Germany next month.

He will challenge winners from other countries in a drive from Wolfsburg (Volkswagen’s home city) to Frankfurt.

“I am very delighted to win the challenge. I am even more excited to be representing Malaysia at the Think Blue. World Championship 2013. Competing in Germany is nerve-wrecking but at the same time thrilling,” said Mr. Ong. I look forward to represent Malaysia in the global platform and I will certainly do my best in bringing home a trophy,” he said, adding that participating in the event has taught him a great deal about the efficient use of fuel and the impact of driving behaviour on the environment.

Volkswagen Group Malaysia MD Dr Zeno Kerschbaumer said: “Our heartfelt congratulations to the first Malaysian winner! We are pleased that the Think Blue. Challenge has fostered sustainable behaviour and actions among the Malaysian drivers.”

He added that this is the first time a Malaysian representative will be participating in the Think Blue. World Championship since it started 3 years ago.

“At Volkswagen, under the “Think Blue.” umbrella, we strive to combine environmental protection with cutting-edge automotive technologies such as TSI and DSG to bring drivers low-emission vehicles. While we are contributing our utmost in building fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly mobility solutions, drivers too need to play their part in adopting and exercising eco-conscious behaviour – both on and off the road. Volkswagen seeks to inspire this change in drivers’ behaviour and we hope that our message will continue to resonate with all Malaysian drivers,” he said.
