The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia is gearing up for an electrifying championship finale in Shanghai, with the highly anticipated endurance challenge making a thrilling return. Drivers Alessandro Ghiretti, Mathys Jaubert, and Dylan Pereira are locked in a fierce battle for the overall title, ensuring the final rounds will be nothing short of spectacular.
Set at the iconic Shanghai International Circuit, this weekend marks the second Endurance Challenge event of the season, featuring a record-equaling 29 entries. Following the success of the inaugural 43-minute + 1 lap race in Sepang, this endurance format will add an extra layer of intensity to the already thrilling conclusion of the 2024 campaign. The top drivers in each class will be awarded a VIP ticket to the prestigious Bathurst 12 Hours as Porsche’s special guests.
In the overall standings, 2024 Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti leads the championship by just 16 points over fellow Frenchman Mathys Jaubert from TORO Racing, while Dylan Pereira of Shanghai Yonda Team BWT remains in contention, 32 points behind, following a double victory in Singapore. Each of these drivers is fighting not only for the championship title but also for a coveted entry into the Albert Park event of next year’s Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, which supports the Australian Grand Prix.
Elsewhere in the Pro-class, Martin Ragginger from Porsche Holding still has a chance to compete for the title, riding the momentum of his consistent podium finishes in the past three rounds. Meanwhile, Brock Gilchrist will make his series debut in the #84 Porsche New Zealand entry.
In Pro-Am, Phantom Global Racing’s Bao Jinlong has already claimed the title with his fifth win in Singapore. However, the runner-up spot is still up for grabs, with Li Xuanyu (Z.SPEED Motorsport), Li Chao (Team Betterlife), and Eric Zang (TORO Racing) in a tight contest for second place.
The Am category features a thrilling battle between Eric Kwong and EBM’s Munkong Sathienthirakul, with Kwong holding a 27-point lead. The class will also welcome two new drivers for the Endurance Challenge, Liu Lic Ka (Z.SPEED Motorsport) and Han Songting (Porsche Own Retail 69 Team), contributing to the record-equalling field.
This weekend also includes two notable returnees: Hu Bo for Z.SPEED Motorsport and Yan Chuang making his debut for Phantom Global Racing.
The Shanghai International Circuit, renowned for its long back straight and the challenging snail-like Turns 1-4, is set to host the event, which promises action-packed racing as drivers aim for victory and prestigious Porsche experiences.
Alongside the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, the Porsche Sports Cup China will bring its own brand of excitement, with over 200 Porsche cars expected for the hot laps and Porsche Parade.
Action begins on Friday with the first Free Practice session at 10:20 AM (Malaysia time). Qualifying takes place on Saturday at 9:40 AM, followed by Race 1 at 3:40 PM. The grand finale of the Endurance Cup kicks off on Sunday at 3:40 PM.
