Perodua Reveals Final Chapter of EV Journey with Half-Cut Prototype at Malaysian Autoshow 2025

Serdang, 8 May 2025 — National automaker Perodua has taken another bold step in its electric vehicle (EV) journey by unveiling a half-cut prototype of its upcoming EV at the Malaysian Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025), offering Malaysians an exclusive glimpse into the brand’s evolving capabilities in EV design, innovation, and local production.

The display—dubbed as the final episode of Perodua’s EV journey—pulls back the curtain on the interior architecture and core technologies of its EV prototype, giving the public a close-up view of what could shape Malaysia’s electric mobility future. Visitors can also engage in a simulated drive experience, immersing themselves in the functionality and feel of Perodua’s future EV.

“Our display highlights Malaysia’s capabilities in assimilating and adopting EV technologies as our own,” said Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, President and Chief Executive Officer of Perodua. “This isn’t just a showcase of a car—it’s a demonstration of national capability and progress.”

Education Meets Innovation: A Collaborative Leap Forward

In addition to the EV prototype, Perodua is also spotlighting two other key exhibits at MAS 2025:

  • X06E Hybrid/EV prototype – A collaborative project with Politeknik Muadzam Shah, this initiative showcases a locally developed HEV/BEV prototype, reflecting the technical prowess of Malaysian students.

“This collaboration proves that our technical students are capable of producing such technologies,” said Dato’ Sri Zainal. “It is Perodua’s mission to help grow the local automotive ecosystem and share knowledge across generations.”

A Greener Horizon: Introducing Thorium-Based Clean Energy

In a forward-looking move toward green energy, Perodua has partnered with Emerald Horizon, an Austria-based company, to explore thorium-powered energy solutions—a rare earth alternative that could reduce Malaysia’s reliance on fossil fuels.

“We believe thorium has the potential to contribute meaningfully to our clean energy mix,” said Dato’ Sri Zainal. “This complements our current efforts, including the use of solar energy and natural gas at our production plants, as we aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.”

An Invitation to the Future

Perodua’s participation in MAS 2025 marks a milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation, local talent development, and clean energy adoption. With an open invitation to all Malaysians, the carmaker encourages visitors to experience the journey firsthand.

“We welcome everyone to visit our booth at MAS 2025 and join us as we shape the future of Malaysia’s automotive industry,” Dato’ Sri Zainal concluded.
