JAECOO J7 PHEV Surpasses Expectations, Travels 1,300KM on a Full Charge and Tank*

Malaysia Among the First to Preview JAECOO J7 PHEV Before Year-end Launch

In a remarkable showcase of endurance and efficiency, the JAECOO J7 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) successfully completed a challenging 1,300km* journey from Guangzhou to Wuhu, China, fueled by a full battery and tank of fuel. Malaysia joined six other nations, including Italy, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey, and the UK, in putting this groundbreaking PHEV to the test, demonstrating its exceptional long-range capabilities.

According to Leo Chen, Executive Vice President of Chery Corporate Malaysia, the J7 PHEV’s performance exceeded expectations in the multinational test drive, aimed at addressing common concerns about electric vehicles—particularly range anxiety.

“JAECOO wanted to give drivers around the world the chance to experience the confidence and peace of mind the J7 PHEV provides. It’s a timely introduction for a market that demands both powerful engine performance and outstanding fuel efficiency,” Chen said.

Breaking the Barriers for PHEV Efficiency

The 13-hour, ultra-long-range test drive began on 16 October 2024, as drivers navigated a variety of conditions, including city traffic, national roads, and expressways. Although the JAECOO J7 PHEV boasts a class-leading pure electric range of 106km* on paper, the marathon test revealed that the vehicle could travel 125.2km in pure-electric mode—a significant 19.2km beyond its specifications*.

This achievement is attributed to JAECOO’s innovative Super Hybrid System (SHS) Technology, which optimizes the vehicle’s energy usage, even in challenging conditions. Emily Lek, Vice President of JAECOO Malaysia, emphasized how the technology allows the J7 PHEV to maintain its efficiency while offering both fuel savings and top-tier performance.

“This marathon drive underscores JAECOO’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of hybrid technology. We’re proud to introduce the J7 PHEV to Malaysia, where we know it will redefine energy-efficient mobility for drivers,” Lek said.

Coming Soon: JAECOO J7 PHEV to Launch in Malaysia

Set to officially launch in Malaysia at the end of 2024, the JAECOO J7 PHEV combines its hybrid engine and class-leading range with the ability to DC charge and power external electronic devices, such as projectors or kettles—perfect for outdoor adventures. While sharing many features with its petrol-powered sibling, the J7 PHEV boasts key differences, including its unrivalled hybrid range and external power output capabilities.

Two variants will be available:

  • The All-wheel Drive (AWD) variant, which offers seven driving modes: Economy, Standard, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-Road.
  • The Two-wheel Drive (2WD) variant, featuring three driving modes: Standard, Sport, and Economy.

The PHEV system is powered by an 18.3kW battery and a 60-litre fuel tank, producing 525 Nm of torque. Additionally, the J7 PHEV is equipped with a 40kW DC Charger, supporting fast charging.

According to Lek, customers will be able to personalize their J7 PHEV with a selection of color options, rim styles, and interior upgrades to match their preferences.

“We’re excited to offer Malaysians the chance to experience the JAECOO J7 PHEV’s versatility and individuality. Registrations of interest will begin during our preview this October, with deliveries expected to start by February 2025,” Lek added.
