Hongkong superstar Aaron Kwok to race at Sepang

Fans of Hong Kong’s superstar Aaron Kwok will have an opportunity to see their idol in action at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) during the inaugural Audi R8 LMS Cup Asia Series which stages its 4th round next weekend in Malaysia. Currently 10th in the overall standings, Aaron, who is known to be a highly gifted racing driver on top of his singing and acting talents, is seventh in the Am Cup with 40 points after three rounds and six races

Organised as one of the support races for the 14th Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER), the Audi R8 LMS Cup is a one-make series featuring the Audi R8 LMS GT3 race cars.

Other prominent names participating include Malaysia’s former Formula 1 driver Alex Yoong and top drivers in the region such as Marchy Lee, Franky Cheng Confu, Adderly Fong and top German driver, Rahel Frey.

Introduced this year following the success of the China series last year, the season opened with a two-race weekend in Zhuhai in May before proceeding to the Ordos Circuit in another part of China for another double header for Round 2.  Round 3 was held in South Korea earlier this month.

After Malaysia, the series will move to Shanghai for Round 5 in October before its final round in Macau at the Guia International Circuit in November.

The Audi R8 LMS (Le Mans Series) is a GT race car and has already scored more than 100 international victories. Only minimal adjustments are permitted under the series regulations, allowing pure racing talent to shine. With its Audi Space Frame (ASF) body, the R8 LMS represents Audi ultra, the pioneering lightweight concepts of the German carmaker. The 2013 version of the car features improved aerodynamics and an optimized engine mapping.

Apart from the Audi R8 LMS Cup, the MMER – the 12-hour endurance race which began in 2000 – will also feature the Asia Classic Car Challenge, the Ferrari Challenge and the new single-seater Asia Cup as support races.
