Jaecoo Malaysia has just unveiled the Omoda C9, a premium SUV coupe, on public preview at 1 Utama. This marks a unique branding approach for the Chery-owned vehicle, as Jaecoo Malaysia aims to create a streamlined, high-end experience under its own name.
Brand & Market Positioning
While Omoda and Jaecoo are both subsidiaries of Chery, Malaysia represents an exception, with Jaecoo positioned as the premium SUV brand here. The branding at 1 Utama focuses solely on Jaecoo, even though the vehicle remains an Omoda C9.
Specifications & Design
The Omoda C9, labeled a “premium off-road SUV coupe,” is built on a larger scale than the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, with dimensions of 4,775 mm in length and 1,920 mm in width. Its muscular stance is enhanced by the diamond-matrix grille, vertical Sigma DRLs, flush door handles, and adaptive LED lighting, providing a striking front profile. The 2.0L turbo engine delivers 261 PS and 400 Nm of torque, with both FWD and AWD options. Paired with an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission, the C9 offers three drive modes for the 2WD and an additional four off-road modes for the AWD.
Interior Luxury & Features
Inside, the C9 boasts a 24.6-inch display, a 14-speaker Sony sound system, and a three-zone fragrance-controlled air conditioning system. The upmarket features include push-button door releases, ambient lighting, ventilated seats, and rear seat recline. Safety features are ample, with eight airbags and a Level 2.5 ADAS suite covering lane assistance, blind spot monitoring, and emergency lane-keeping.
Pricing & Availability
As a CKD model assembled in Shah Alam, the C9 starts at an estimated RM185,000 for the 2WD and RM195,000 for the AWD. A matte grey paint option is available for an extra RM3,000. Orders are now open, with a formal launch expected in December and deliveries starting in early 2025.
The Omoda C9 preview event at 1 Utama’s new wing is ongoing until Sunday, giving prospective buyers a first-hand experience with this feature-rich SUV.
