Ferrari F8 Spider debuts in South East Asia

Malaysia is the first country in the region to launch the Ferrari F8 Spider

The Ferrari F8 Spider has been launched in Malaysia by Naza Italia. The convertible version of the F8 Tributo has been described as being “less extreme than the 488 Pista Spider, but sportier than the 488 Spider” that the F8 Spider replaces.

The F8 Spider is 49bhp more powerful and 20kg lighter than the 488 Spider. The V8, 3.9-litre engine produces 710bhp compared to 661 in the 488 Spider. 0-100 is in 2.9 seconds and the F8 Spider tops out at 340km/h. Peak torque is 10Nm higher than in the 488 Spider with 770Nm available at 3250rpm.

The additional power was achieved by moving the air intakes from the flanks to the rear where they are located on either side of the blown spoiler, ensuring greater air flow to the engine. The new intake line was derived directly from the 488 Challenge.

Ferrari has favoured retractable hard tops for their convertibles for models now for the comfort and versatility they provide. To adapt the design of the F8 Tributo to the F8 Spider, the designers shift the separation line between the car’s body and the roof from its conventional position at the occupant shoulder level to above the B-pillar. As a result, the top itself was more compact and two-dimensional. This enabled it to be divided into two parts and stowed on top of the engine. The hard top takes 14 seconds to close or open at up to 45 km/h.

The latest generation of vehicle dynamics control systems like the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer system (FDE+) integrated into the side slip control system, improves drivers’ control on the limit and makes the F8 Spider more engaging.

The Ferrari F8 Spider starts from RM1,178,000 (before duties, customisation options, taxes and insurance). For more information or for a private viewing between now and 31 May, contact the Ferrari Malaysia Showroom.
