BMW stays in the lead

BMW Group Malaysia today announced that the organisation has achieved another record performance in the first quarter (Q1) of 2013. As of March 31, 2013, the BMW delivered a total of 1,665 vehicles, consisting of 1,482 BMW, 86 MINI and 97 BMW Motorrad (2-wheelers) vehicles, an increase of 9.8% compared to the same period in 2012.

Commenting on the achievement, Dr. Gerhard Pils, Chief Executive Officer, BMW Group Malaysia said: “We are very pleased to announce our performance for the first quarter of 2013, which sets yet another benchmark for us here in the country. Since the start of the year, we have experienced positive growth which further emphasizes the strength of the business within the country and we look forward to another successful quarter in delivering the premium expression that can only be experienced with the brands represented by the BMW Group.”

Since January 2013, BMW Group Malaysia has already introduced an array of new products which include the ActiveHybrid 7-Series, MINI One as well as the latest BMW F 700 GS, BMW F 800 GS and BMW HP4 motorcycles.

Most prominent in the new vehicle offering is BMW’s latest fleet of the ActiveHybrid 3-Series, 5-Series and 7-Series which reinforces the company’s commitment to BMW EfficientDynamics – its sustainability strategy for the utilisation of Energy Efficient Vehicles (EEVs) in the country.

“In 2009, we made a bold step of introducing our fleet of BMW Advanced Diesel vehicles in the country. At that time, we were the first in the passenger car industry here to offer not only a diesel engine car but a fleet of diesel engine vehicles and today, we can already see the success of this move as more than 20% of BMW vehicles delivered here consist of our Advanced Diesel variants. We now continue our commitment to BMW EfficientDynamics here with our fleet of ActiveHybrid cars which will continue to define us as leaders in the industry.” said Dr. Pils.

Dr. Pils added that BMW also reiterated its commitment to the country earlier this year, adding the BMW X3 xDrive20i, an entirely model series to be assembled at BMW Group Malaysia’s Assembly Plant in Kulim, Kedah.

“The introduction of the new BMW X3 xDrive20i marks the fourth model line we have introduced here at our assembly facilities in Kulim, Kedah and further increases BMW Group Malaysia’s investment and commitment in the country. The new locally-assembled units will continue to match the capabilities of their imported counterparts here and will further allow us to optimize our supply to customers throughout the country as well as maximising our ability to increase the total cost of ownership value, waiting time for complete units and spare parts for our customers in the country,” he said.

Also contributing to BMW Group Malaysia’s continuing high sales performance is its network of dealerships which grew steadily to 24, with more dealerships to be opened in the later part of 2013.

“Our dealership network forms a critical touch-point for us to our customers. We believe that the success of our brand can certainly be attributed to our respected partners which play an integral role in ensuring continued growth across all brands within the BMW Group. The formation of a network of good and capable dealerships is crucial in communicating the premium expression of the BMW brand to our customers. With all BMW dealerships across Malaysia being successful ventures, we hope to continue charting progressive business growth for the year. I can already confirm that by the end of 2013, we will have new dealerships in Langkawi, Seremban and Kota Kinabalu.” said Dr. Pils.
