Audi Launches First Locally Assembled SUV in Malaysia – The All-New Q7 S line

Kuala Lumpur, April 24, 2025 – Audi has officially marked a historic milestone with the local assembly of its flagship luxury SUV, the Audi Q7 S line, right here in Malaysia. This premium seven-seater SUV is the first Audi model to be assembled in the Southeast Asian region, cementing Malaysia’s position as a key production hub for the German automaker.

The Audi Q7 S line, a Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV), is assembled at the Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VGM) plant in Pekan, Pahang — the only Audi production facility in Southeast Asia. This world-class facility, operated in collaboration with DRB-Hicom as its contract manufacturing partner, already assembles various Volkswagen models for the Malaysian market.

“This manufacturing plant and its transformation with a modernized and updated product portfolio is really a centre of excellence,” said Dr. Susanne Lehmann, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Malaysia. “Customers will continue to experience the same Audi quality, performance and luxury – now made in Malaysia.”

A Symbol of Progress and Innovation

Dr. Lehmann emphasized that the Q7’s local assembly is more than just a new chapter for Audi Malaysia — it’s a symbol of innovation, strategic partnership, and forward-thinking progress. The move aligns with the Malaysian government’s National Automotive Policy, which aims to establish the country as a hub for high-tech and high-value automotive manufacturing.

With an initial investment exceeding RM12 million, the Pekan plant is now capable of assembling up to 5,000 Audi units per year. Future models are expected to roll off the line as part of Audi’s long-term vision for regional expansion.

Serving the Demand for Premium Mobility

Denyu Bostandzhiev, Managing Director of PHS Automotive Malaysia, highlighted the strategic importance of local production in response to growing consumer demand for luxury mobility.

“By assembling some of our top-of-the-line vehicles here, we can offer customers more competitive pricing and shorter delivery times,” he said. “With growing demand for D-segment SUVs, we believe that this is the right time to add the Q7 to our range of Audi models. The signature Q7 will lead the way for more line-ups in the premium luxury segment.”

Pricing and Availability

The locally assembled Audi Q7 S line MHEV is now open for booking, with prices ranging between RM469,000 and RM489,000. The SUV is expected to officially launch in Malaysia next month, delivering German engineering, cutting-edge hybrid technology, and refined luxury – now made in Malaysia.
